To be an appropriate role model and friend to a youth in order to assist in redirecting the life of that troubled youth. |

Who are our Mentors
Mentors are men and women, 18 years of age or older, who have a sincere desire to make a difference in a young person's life.
All of our mentors are required to:
* go through screening process, which includes reference and background checks
* attend 3 to 6 hours of mentoring training
* spend several hours a week with their youth
* make a one year commitment |

Major Accountabilities
To comply with all policies and procedures of the Y- Pals Program including training, supervision, and commitment requirements. To apply through an applications process, with four character references, and complete a personal interview. To agree to personally request and submit criminal background checks.

Qualifications
A caring, committed, and dependable adult. Must be emotionally stable and accepting of the terms and conditions of the program. Must be broad minded and able to cope with a variety of problem situations specific to the youth. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, and have own transportation. The volunteer must have the time to devote in developing the one-on-one relationship with the youth.
Length of Commitment
A minimum of several hours per week of contact for a period of one year. Attendance at periodic group activities. |
